" Nos quedo claro que estamos ante la presencia de una propuesta diferente, novedosa, que pretende llevar a nuevas audiencias la cultura afroperuana con este trabajo de fusion, por lo que damos una viva a "Afro conTempo" y los deseos de Latina Noticias de una larga vida para esta compania."

ABOUT AFRO-PERUVIAN CULTURE:
The Africans that arrived in Peru were brought mostly from the regions of Angola
and the Congo, but also many other people of African descent arrived who were
born in Panama, Spain, and Brazil.
Since the African ethnic groups were so mixed by the time they reached Peru, most
religious traditions and languages were lost, though some music and dance survived.
From influences of the Spanish colonialism and indigenous surroundings, Afro-
Peruvian culture was born. Today it represents the coastal folklore of Peru.

ABOUT FUSION WORK:
After completing thesis work:
“COMBINING AFRO-PERUVIAN WITH CONTEMPORARY MODERN MOVEMENTS AND MODERN CONCEPTS IN CHOREOGRAPHY”
at Florida International University, Marcela conducted two research trips to Peru investigating, teaching, interviewing, and performing among the most successful artists in the country.
Afro conTempo Dance Theater is the result of these investigations, drawing inspiration from a culture to be identified, expressed, and shared through a contemporary vision in order to reach audiences around the world.
